Executive Summary for Tech4Hornets Transfer of Equipment to Students
Why is this necessary?
The District currently has approximately 66% of its “fleet of desktop and laptop computers” labelled as obsolete. While these devices could be thrown on the “rubbish heap” and sold for parts, with a free open source operating system and software, these computers can be repurposed for students as their home computer and provide source equipment for positive student and community outreach.
What happens if we don’t implement?
Students will continue to have limited access to technology at home, limiting educational opportunities. Equipment will continue to be disposed of as it has been done in the past.
How will we measure success?
Success is achieved when obsolete equipment that qualifies for the Tech4Hornets Program is repurposed, learning opportunities are provided for students and parents, and equipment is transferred to ECISD families.
When will this happen?
This program will be announced in May and implementation would follow the schedule available online at
